Obituary for Grant Lewis Palmer, Jr.

Grant Lewis Palmer, Jr. passed away surrounded by loved ones after fighting a good fight against cancer on September 11, 2016. Grant was born on May 26, 1945 to Grant Lewis Palmer, Sr. and Kathleen Ray Palmer in Tempe, Arizona. He lived most of his life in Arizona and graduated from Mesa High School in the Class of 1963. Grant served an LDS mission in Argentina and used his polished Spanish as much as possible in his life. He married his high school sweetheart in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on October 27, 1966. They have been married almost 50 years. They had seven children and 4 Indian foster children. Later he served 9 ward and stake missions. He enjoyed horses, baseball, softball, basketball, playing the guitar, singing, camping, guns, and performing Desert Pete. Grant also enjoyed missionary work, family history, family reunions, and spending time outdoors. He was a jack of all trades from breaking horses, ranching, cattle, cabinet work, leather work, farming, building construction, tractor work, landscaping, plumbing and electrical. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He held many church callings, including serving in four bishoprics, and was a much loved Boy Scout Leader. He has a deep love of the Savior and loved to share the gospel with others through service.

Grant is survived by his wife, Lucinda “Cindy” King Palmer and children: Darrel Grant Palmer (Nancy), Lynette Kay Baldwin (Lance), Deann Frances Webb (Aaron), Eldon Bruce Palmer (Evelina), Alison Gay Cardwell (Scott), Timothy Dale Palmer (Shayleen), and Greg Lewis Palmer (Tasha) and 28 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grant Lewis Palmer, Sr. and Kathleen Ray Palmer and brothers, David Jordan Palmer and Winston Ray Palmer.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 16th at 11:00am. Viewing will be prior to funeral service at 10:00am at the LDS Kimball Stake Center1266 S. 32nd St., Mesa, AZ 85204. Interment will be held on Saturday, September 17th at the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor, AZ.
