She was a devoted mother to her only child, Sarah Fry Lyman, and loving wife of John Fry for 51 years. Sarah later married Ari Lyman. Pam left behind two sisters, Sally and Mellie Horath. She loved antiques and eventually started a business with John. Pam always made room for family and friends when they had no place to go, despite living in a small home most of her life. She was generous to a fault. It was her faith in Jesus and love of life that helped get her through a 30 year battle with cancer.
LIFE OF EXCITEMENT, ADVENTURE & TRAGEDY
Pam always liked to do things in a big way. In college she was popular as a Pom Pom girl who learned to trick ride and flamenco dance to compete in Beauty Pageants. Her hard work paid off in 1961 when she won Miss Apache Junction, Arizona. She modeled professionally and taught modelling. Pam lived a life of excitement and adventure–always on the go and learning something new, a perpetual student. She eventually became a furniture buyer and ironically at lunch one day met her future husband John Fry at the local “Chuck Wagon.” After a short romance, they married in 1967.
Pam loved Jesus so much that she was supportive of her husband John to attend Moody Bible Institute. She prayed with him and was always by his side supporting him through college. Four years later, their only child Sarah was born. The Frys had an exciting life together often travelling to California for their antique business. Sadly their daughter Sarah suffered a nearly life-threatening car accident in 1990. They almost lost Sarah. The stress of it all likely contributed to Pam being diagnosed with breast cancer even though Sarah miraculously recovered.
FRAGILE IN BODY, NEVER IN SPIRIT
Pam’s extensive battle with cancer was greatly aided by the ongoing comfort of John and Sarah. Through Pam’s plight with cancer, she became exceedingly sensitive to foods and toxins.Sarah described her mom as a canary in the coal mines during these times. The canary was sensitive to carbon monoxide enough to alert miners to escape safely. Pam wanted to save herself and help save others lives who also suffered with life threatening conditions—always researching with her daughter, hopeful someday for a cancer cure. Despite being fragile in body,
Pam was never fragile in spirit! Sarah fondly remembers her mom praying with people whenever the Holy Spirit prompted her. It wasn’t often that these promptings happened, yet clearly it was inspired by God. This even happened once in the middle of a cancer-therapy session when Pam prayed for another patient. Most of all, toward the end of Pam’s life, daughter Sarah remembers how her mom ministered to others at the assisted living home. Pam always enjoyed watching her daughter Sarah’s Messianic dance. At 75 years old, Pamela passed away with metastatic breast cancer on June 17, 2020.
